The morning walk of 1.6 miles took place at 9:30AM when the temperature was about 38° and the skies were blue and sunny. I am adjusting to the dichotomy between sunny skies and cold air. I wear my driving gloves to keep my hands warm. My ears get a little cold, and I can feel the wind through my sweatpants, but I can actually live with those. Nary a single dog bark today - they must be getting used to me.

Went out this afternoon to get a set of allen wrenches to get my mirror onto my Trail 125. I bought a complete set of metric and SAE allens, but I may scam Home Depot and return them tomorrow. I only needed one size, but you can’t buy one allen wrench. I also discovered I had to get an AZ off-highway-vehicle (OHV) sticker for my motorcycle for $30. I had to watch a safety video and then pass a 20-question online multiple choice quiz. I passed, but I don’t know what my final score was. So now I can legally ride off road. The weather, however, is not being cooperative, as it’s actually a bit cold to ride despite the sun. There is a NWS Cold Weather Warning out for tonight into tomorrow morning, with wind chills maybe hitting 15° to 5° in places. Given the shortness of daylight still, the riding window is still very short. I went to the US Forest Service Station and got a few maps to map out some rides.

AML and I got a couple of really delicious pulled pork sandwiches from a street truck inside the local farmer’s market. The guy who made the pulled pork told me he learned about BBQ from Mets ballplayer Rusty Staub, who had a couple of restaurants in Manhattan in the 80s. The chef also worked at Tavern on the Green for 7 years before coming out west. The flavor was like nothing you can get back east. Truly unique.

We also sucked it up and decided to get a UPS virtual mailbox. While it’s a little bit of a hassle to get mail and packages, it’s better than constantly nagging our host’s mother to get our mail. Not terribly expensive, and now we have a reason to get out every other day to get mail. I think after a week we are finally nailing down a routine of sorts. I think one or two wineries are next on the list of places to visit.
